APPLICATIONS
|
Esmolol is a short-term (half-life: apprx. 9 minutes) cardioselective
beta1-blocking agent used as an antiarrhythmic in the control of atrial
fibrillation, atrial flutter, and noncompensatory sinus tachycardia. Its
chemical designation is
(±)-Methyl-p-[2-hydroxy- 3-(isopropylamino)propoxy] hydrocinnamate; existing
enantiomeric pair. The hydrochloride salt of esmolol a white to off-white
crystalline powder; soluble in water and alcohol; administered by intravenous
infusion; administered by intravenous infusion.
